Top 8 Supercars

Wow my blog is becoming a list site, oh well they're fun to read right? There are so many cars out there that can be labeled as supercars. Wikipedia says that supercar is a term used most often to describe an ultra-high-end "exotic" automobile, whose performance is superior to that of its contemporaries. They are all extremely awesome, fast, and/or very expensive. Prices range from around $70,000 up to well over $1.5 million. The price alone makes the car super. But the real reason for getting behind the wheel of one of these machines is the performance. Some of these cars can rocket from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds. This is one of those lists that is extremely hard to keep short so here are my Top 8 favorite supercars. Lets get started.

  

8. Pagani Zonda F 

The Pagani Zonda F Is an $741,000 Italian, carbon fiber almost alien-like supercar. This crazy looking car uses a Mercedes-AMG 7.3 liter V12. It is one of the largest V12 engines put into a production car. The engine makes 641bhp and 575ft-lb of torque. With these numbers, the Pagani can accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds and lapped the green hell in only 7 minutes 27.82 seconds. It's amazing performance and radical looks give this Italian beast a spot on my list.

7. Dodge Viper

With an 8.4 Liter V10 making 600hp and 560ft-lb of torque, the Dodge Viper makes 0-60 in well under 4 seconds. And it starts at the "bargain" price of "only" $92,000. For $10,000 more you get the Viper ACR (pictured above). The ACR accelerates faster and produces enough downforce to keep the car on the ground at excessive speeds. It lapped Nürburgring in only 7 minutes and 22 seconds. making it the King of the Ring.

6. SSC Ultimate Aero

The SSC Ultimate Aero is $650,000 killing machine made by Shelby Supercars. This car can be considered the hitman of speed records. The Ultimate Aero holds the current record for worlds fastest production car. It holds the record at 259.12mph. SSC achieved this speed thanks to a 6.35L V8 that makes 1287Bhp and 1112ft-lb of torque. With 0-60 in 2.78 seconds and a quarter mile of 9.90 seconds at 144 mph, this car is pretty much the epitomy of supercars.

5. Ferrari F50

This is definitely one of the most beautiful pieces of art on the the list. The Mostly carbon fiber F50 was introduced in 1995 to celebrate Ferrari's 50th anniversary. It's 4.7L V12 was derived from the Ferrari 333 SP Lemans race car. It produced 513hp and 347ft-lb of torque, propelling the beauty to 60mph in 3.6 seconds and up to 100 in only 8 seconds all the way to 202mph. It is often overshadowed by it's predecessor, the F40 but it will always be my number one Ferrari.

4. Nissan GT-R

Japan makes the list with the mighty Godzilla. It outperforms almost every Ferrari and is the most affordable car on the list.IT looks fast it goes fast and it sells fast, thanks to a base price of $84,000. Thanks to near perfect engineering, Nissan can now compete with the best. The GT-R sprints to 60mph from a standstill in as little as 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 193mph. Nissan also ran a Nürburgring lap in 7:27.7 minutes. All this in a 3800 pound V6 powered car.

3. Corvette ZR1

I originally felt obligated to include this car in the top 3 since it is a staple of American performance cars but the Corvette ZR1 has definitely earned its place on this list of supercars. The LS9 6.2L Supercharged V8 produces 638hp and 604lb-ft of torque. 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and quarter mile times of 11.2@135mph make the ZR1 the fastest Corvette ever made.It achieved a Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds making it one of the fastest production cars to lap the circuit.The fact that it's pretty doesn't hurt.

2. Jaguar XJ220

This by far the most underrated supercar of all time. This is probably due to the fact that the V12 was replaced by a twin turbo V6 and the all wheel drive was replaced with rear wheel drive. In spite of the smaller displacement and half the number of cylinders, the engine produced more power than the V12 would have. The new car was faster and had a top speed of 223mph making it the worlds fastest production car at the time. The poor car was also released during a global recession. All of those setbacks didn't stop the XJ220 from becoming one of the greatest and most beautiful creations of man. 

1. Lamborghini Reventón

Lamborghini has created the coolest most unique looking car ever with the Reventón. It was the most powerful Lamborghini until the release of the LP670 SV. The 6.5L powerhouse is a 640 horsepower V12 with AWD, it sends the car to 60 in 3.3 seconds and keeps going all the way up to 221mph. The exterior is an all carbon fiber F-22 Raptor derived design that only comes in opaque grey. Pictured below is the instrument panel that makes the driver feel like an F-22 pilot.

Sadly with an initial price of $1.25 million and a production run of only 20, not including the equally rare more expensive roadster, the Lamborghini Reventón is very unobtainable. Despite never having a chance to ever drive one the Reventón earns the title of number one supercar.
